After seeing what was going to be in my Ipsy bag for June, I had a pretty good feeling it was going to be significantly better than last month’s bag. Each month, Ipsy subscribers receive a makeup bag with 4-5 deluxe samples and full sized beauty products for only $10. The bag itself is a gorgeous pineapple print by Rebecca Minkoff. The fabric is a little on the cheap side, but this is probably the first Ipsy bag that I love and will definitely carry in my purse.
There is probably nothing in the makeup realm that I could be less excited about than mascara. It’s either good or it isn’t, and that’s about all there is to it unless you decide to go out on a limb and try out a funky-colored mascara.
The Be a Bombshell Lash Out Mascara didn’t look clumpy at all on the brush, so I had high hopes for it. It did, however, have an overwhelmingly strong chemical smell. I’ve never noticed this from any other mascara I’ve used, so, thinking that maybe I was being overly critical, I went and smelled all of my mascaras. I wasn’t. None of them smell like this, which made it kind of scary to think about putting on my eyelashes. For the sake of this blog, though, I powered through it and tried it out. Despite the scary chemical smell, it didn’t cause any irritation in my eyes. It also didn’t even look like I put any mascara on. The formula is thinned out enough to keep from clumping, but after layering the mascara over and over again, my eyelashes didn’t stand out as much as they do with just two coats of the drugstore stuff I use. Full size 0.25 oz, $15.00 value
I’ll be honest. I have not mastered these liquid eyeliners with the felt tips. I have to spend a lot of time being super precise to make these things work, and more often than not, I screw it up and have to start over again. I just don’t have time for that, but it doesn’t mean I don’t want to figure these dang things out one of these days. I want to. SO BAD.
I was hoping that maybe there would be something different about Jesse’s Girl Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner that would make things a little easier on me, but it’s actually one of the worst ones I’ve ever tried.
The formula is so runny that it immediately seeped into all of the tiny little cracks on my wrist when I swatched it. I tried to line my eyes with it and it went everywhere. I wiped my eyelids clean and gave it a second try, being super careful not to let it spread anywhere it wasn’t supposed to, but it did anyway. My eyebrow, my chin, my hands, MY ANKLE. No place on my body was safe from this stuff. When I had realized that the situation had gotten completely out of hand, I washed my face for the third time that day, decided it wasn’t my fault, and threw in the towel. Full size 0.17 oz, $6.99 value
The NYX Butter Gloss in Éclair is a pretty, cool pink, and the perfect shade for summer.
It is a little sticky and heavy, as most lip glosses tend to be, but it’s a nice color up next to my skin. Full size 0.27 oz, $4.99 value. Here’s what it looks like on my face:
The Olehenriksen Truth to Go Wipes smell so much like Starburst candies, I’m pretty sure I could eat them. These might be my favorite thing out of the whole bag this month. While they claim to be able to remove even the most stubborn eye makeup, I found that to not be even remotely true. They do feel nice and refreshing, though, and I’ve been wiping my face with them after my evening runs around the neighborhood. They don’t dry my skin out at all, and they make it feel nice and and smooth. 10 wipes, $9.00 value
I typically don’t put anything in my hair aside from the occasional dry shampoo powder. My hair is very fine and most things weigh it down or make it feel sticky or oily. The Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray was anything but dreamy. My hair felt sticky and dry and I was convinced I needed a haircut because it looked extremely unhealthy. I still need a haircut, but I don’t think that’s going to make this spray any better. 1.52 oz, $3.25 value
The total value of the June Ipsy bag is $39.23. This bag was a bit of a bust for me. The lip gloss wasn’t bad, but I’m just not a big fan of lip gloss. I found myself searching high and low for the wipes while I was out shopping this afternoon, but didn’t have any luck finding any. I guess I’ll have to order them online if I decide I want some more. The makeup bag pretty much made up for everything else, so I’m happy.
